Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek revealed Tuesday that he will have to undergo additional chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer mainly because the progress he produced just after the 1st round was quick-lived.
In a video message and an interview on Excellent Morning America, the 79-year-old stated that his early therapy was so thriving, he believed he was carried out with grueling chemo sessions.
“That was a bit premature and absolutely more than-optimistic,” he stated in the video.
Physicians began him on a course of immunotherapy, but “that didn’t go incredibly effectively,” he stated. “My numbers went south—dramatically and rapidly.”
Trebek was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer, the most sophisticated sort, in March. The prognosis for the illness is grim: Just three % of sufferers survive for 5 years or longer.
When Trebek announced his diagnosis six months ago, he stated he was determined to fight it. And he sounded a hopeful note once again Tuesday as he disclosed he is back for additional chemo.
“Hey, they worked incredibly effectively the 1st time so we’re expecting superior final results once again,” he told his fans. “But please preserve me in your superior thoughts and prayers.”
In his GMA interview, Trebek stated he’s been battling depression and would get teary-eyed though filming the 35th season of Jeopardy! But, he stated, he is not afraid of dying.
“I comprehend that there is an finish in sight for me, just as there is for every person else. A single line that I have applied with our employees in current weeks and months is that when I do pass on, a single issue they will not say at my funeral is, ‘Oh, he was taken from us as well quickly,’” Trebek stated.
“The believed of passing on does not frighten me, it does not. Other points do, the have an effect on it will have on my loved ones… it tends to make me sad. But the believed of myself moving on, hey people, it comes with the territory.”
